  • The Assembly Appropriations Committee holds a hearing into the mistake on the state's Race to the Top application that caused New Jersey to miss out on $400 million in federal education reform funds.
  • Gov. Chris Christie -- in a bit of counter-programming, as well a quick start out of the gates after Labor Day -- holds a town-hall meeting at Packanack Lake Country Club in Wayne, the first in what his office says will be a series, to unveil his agenda for the coming weeks and months.
  • Christie opens the day doing a cable TV news tour -- 'Morning Joe' on MSNBC at 7 a.m., 'Imus in the Morning' on Fox Business Network at 7:30 a.m. and 'Fox & Friends' on Fox News at 8 a.m.
  • Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno -- after joining Christie in Wayne -- has events in Fair Lawn, Linden and East Brunswick, with Port Authority of New York and New Jersey deputy executive director Bill Baroni, to present steel from the World Trade Center for memorials.
  • New Jersey Transit executive director James Weinstein is at the Trenton train station to introduce a 90-day pilot program to examine the use of quiet cars -- no cell phones allowed, and sound on pagers, games and computers disabled -- as the first and last cars on Northeast Corridor "3900 series" express trains that operate to and from Trenton, Hamilton, Princeton Junction, Newark and New York.
  • Motor Vehicle Commission chief administrator Raymond Martinez visits Valcheck Bus Company Inc. in Hillsborough with state and local officials and kindergarten children to show off how the MVC's school bus safety inspection program.
  • Assm. Linda Greenstein kicks off her fall campaign for the 14th District state Senate seat with a rally at her Hamilton headquarters.
  • Delaware Bay section of the Shell Fisheries Council meets in Port Norris.
